The latest with Tony:

So many of you may have heard, many may have not heard, so here's the story...

Three weeks ago today I sprained my ankle really bad (worst pain I have ever felt). I was pretty much immobile for the rest of the weekend. About two or three days later, my ankle was feeling a little better, but my calf muscle started to hurt. By the next Friday, my ankle felt good and I started walking on it. My calf muscle was the only problem. It hurt really bad.

I just thought it was because I hadn't used it in almost a week and it was just tightening up. Throughout that whole next week, the calf muscle and the ankle starting feeling really good and all was well. Then, last Monday, around 9:00am, I started having trouble taking deep breaths. Couldn't sit up straight or stand up straight.

Decided to leave work about noon, went home and tried to rest. Laying down killed! There was one little position on my left side I could get in that would allow me to breath enough to sleep. I took a little nap. When I got up, standing straight up felt good. So I went to the park with Callie and Nat and I was feeling pretty good.

Just couldn't lay down or sit up straight without pain. After a long night, it didn't get any better the next day, but it hadn't gotten any worse either. Since it felt better to be up, I ran errands with Nat. She had cancelled all her plans with her friends and we went up to her Mom's work. Vickie sternly made an appointment for me to go see the doctor.

The tested my blood work, did a chest x-ray, and did an EKG. After that, he can into our room and said these words, "Well, I have bad news for you". "What?" I said. "I don't know what's wrong with you. Everything in normal". Then he asked if there was anything happened in the last couple weeks that caused me to "immobile". I told him about my ankle.

Then he asked if I had any calf pain. I told him yes, I did. So basically he said it could be 3 things: 1. Pleurisy, 2.Some word I can't remember, or 3. Blood clots. The last thing he told us was If anything gets worse or nothing improves soon, go to the ER.

My Mom, Nat and I decided to go to the ER right away. So we drove up to LDS Hospital and got some more tests done. After about 4 hours, the doctor came in and said the infamous words, "Yeah, you have P.E.'s." Turns out, I have multiple P.E.'s throughout my chest, mostly in the upper right and lower right chest. A few over on the left side.

They had broken off my calf and traveled to my lungs. The good news was they were small and not near my heart. He told me the treatment was blood thinners. One blood thinner orally and one by injection. I will have to stay at the hospital until my blood thinning level gets to appropriate level.

Right now I am on day four. My level needs to be at 2.0. Four days ago, when I came in here, I was at 1.2. Today, they told me I am at 1.3. Wow, it's moving really slow!! I guess I a just thick blooded!! So there is a chance I will be here till Monday. The two blood thinner medicines won't break down the blood clots, they just make sure no more form and the already existing clots don't get bigger.

My body will break down the clots over the next 6 months to a year. I will have to keep taking the oral blood thinning medicine (called Coumadin) for the next 6 months.

I am doing good here in the hospital, just watching a lot of NCAA Basketball. Thanks to all those who have come to see me and sorry for those who are just hearing about it. I will be okay and should be back to normal soon.

I still don't think I fully understand the seriousness this whole thing was. I have heard if I didn't make to ER by Wednesday, I would most likely be dead. I am feeling a lot of anxiety and a little scared, but I think once I get back to my normal life, it hopefully will all go away.

Tony! That is SO scary. Luckily you got to the emergency room when you did. Kelly's sister Jenny was in the hospital with a blood clot in her leg. It took a while to get the medicine regulated to what she needed, but as soon as they did, she improved really quickly. Take it easy! We'll be thinking of you.

Tony, that is crazy. I hope you don't have to stay for much longer. I'm sure you will keep us posted, best of luck.
