Upper GI

We had to wrap her legs like a Mermaid so she wouldn't move as much!

On New Years Eve Callie went in for an Upper GI at Primary Children's Hospital. The nurse told us that it should be a simple procedure where they will just give Callie a bottle that has the medicine in it and we will do an x ray and watch the fluid go down her esophagus into her stomach and then empty into her intestines!
However it wasn't that easy! Callie started drinking the bottle and we were really excited but then that came to an end! She didn't want to drink it (and I don't blame her, it was like chalk) and she started to fight back with Tony, the nurse the doctor and I. So the Dr. said we are going to have to out the tube up her nose and thread it into her stomach! The doctor called for extra help because Callie is way strong! So now there was 5 of us holding her down! I felt so helpless! I have never felt that bad before, it was awful! As Callie laid there, she was so mad, uncomfortable and the whole time she just looked at Tony and I with eyes saying "why are you doing this to me?" I was speechless, Tony was great though, he kept talking to Callie and telling her that "everything was going to be OK", and that "this is so weird but we are almost done!"
However it took about 20 minutes until the Dr. said well her stomach isn't emptying, so come back in about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes and we will do another x ray to see if the fluids have moved into her intestines.
When we got the 2nd x ray you could see that the fluids have moved! YEAH!
Our GI Dr. called us the next day and said there is some irritation where her stomach ends and where her intestines begin. So she put us on a new medicine and so far things are good!
No throwing up for one week! We will keep you posted, I really hope that we have found our answer! Thank you everyone for your concern!

Sorry about all the sickness and trauma! I'm glad Callie is doing better! What a bummer to have her sick over the holidays!

I am totally all teary-eyed first of all because I'm hoping things really stay better with Callie...I'm so glad it looks like they figured that out. That looks like the EXACT same room and equipment they used for Claire's test. I'm SO sorry for you guys having to hold that down. Lucy's darn strong too so I know how awful that feels! I'm also teary-eyed because I just saw those pics. of Bruce. Man it still makes me seriously tear up every time I think of him, and Lenna losing him. I'm so glad you guys are all around to take care of her.

Hope you feel our love coming your way.
